Con motivo del 150 aniversario del Institut de Droit international, se ha publicado un libro sobre su historia y su obra. Contiene 45 capítulos (16 FR, 29 EN) escritos por varios de sus miembros. Entre ellos figura uno relativo a las “personnes morales” a cargo del profesor José Carlos Fernández Rozas

La Parte I se centra en su evolución desde una perspectiva histórica y en el papel que ha desempeñado hasta la fecha, analizando su misión, composición, función codificadora, relaciones exteriores, difusión e interacción del Derecho internacional privado y el Derecho internacional público.

La Parte II se centra en su contribución a la codificación y el desarrollo del Derecho internacional en distintos ámbitos: solución de controversias, fuentes, ius in bello e ius ad bellum, derechos humanos individuales y colectivos, regulación de espacios y armonización del Derecho internacional privado.

La Parte III ofrece un único  capítulo que ofrece al lector conclusiones sobre la posición del Instituto en el mundo actual y lo que ello significa para su organización y su trabajo en el futuro.

El libro aborda los retos y controversias surgidos en el curso de los trabajos; las resoluciones adoptadas, su impacto y el camino a seguir. Concluye con la posición del Instituto en el mundo actual y su futuro.
